Forest Spirits

Since early childhood, myths teach people the rules of conduct in this world and how to interact with one another. Every person’s inner world is built upon mythology. I create my own heroes by channeling the experience accumulated by my ancestors. And like many generations of women before me, I embroider my own story, stitch by stitch, thread by thread, finding tranquility in these actions. I unite antiquity and modernity under a single mask. I photograph my children and myself. I hide everything most precious beneath the rituals of the past. I place us in a mythical forest and endow us with power. My embroidered forest protects. In creating my heroes, I used embroidery, paint drawing, and the light of a lamp that illuminates the perforations in the paper.
