Two as one

Two as One (Work in Progress)

According to anthropological research, in ancient myths, the main divine essence was represented as the harmony of the masculine and feminine principles. Later, this unity was divided into two opposing halves: the feminine, material, and conscious—the Earth, and the masculine, spiritual, and unconscious—the Sky.

My project highlights that prehistoric era when these two parts existed in unity. It is a visual metaphor that shows that two opposing aspects of personality are inextricably linked, forming a single whole.

I use photographs depicting myself and my husband, where our faces are hidden by masks. Through this project, I speak about our closeness, about internal harmony and fulfillment, about returning to the self. Each shot, where our faces are hidden, symbolizes not only protection but also transformation. The mask becomes a metaphor, simultaneously representing both our individuality and our unity.

The materials used—beads, pearls, amber, and coral—personify the richness of human emotions and connections. Furthermore, these elements represent ancient symbols connected to nature and spirits. They are a reminder of ancestral culture, where daily life and spiritual practices were inextricably linked. There are no clear boundaries here between the real and the fantastic, the natural and the supernatural. This is a space where the protagonist undergoes their rite of passage, discovering and accepting all facets of their “self.”

In this context, my work becomes not only a personal exploration but also an attempt to hear the call of the ancestors that permeates time and space.
